Medications and Medical Oxygen
Medical Oxygen
Medical oxygen will only be provided by Philippine Airlines. Passengers will not be allowed to expend oxygen on board using their own oxygen bottles for safety reasons and in compliance with pertinent regulations. However, for the purpose of availing oneself of oxygen immediately prior to embarkation and after disembarkation, the carriage of an oxygen bottle/cylinder under five (05) kilograms may be allowed provided this is packed properly and is strictly not to be used on board.

PAL shall require:
  • 72 hours advance notice and check-in one hour before the check-in time for the general public to receive carrier-supplied in-flight medical oxygen oninternational flights
  • 48 hours advance notice and check-in one hour before the check-in time for the general public to receive carrier-supplied in-flight medical oxygen on domestic flights
Medicinal Articles
Non-radioactive medicinal articles must not exceed 2 kg (4.4 lbs) or 2 liters (2 quarts), and the net quantity of each single article must not exceed 0.5kg (1 lb) or 0.5 liter (1 pint). Permitted to be checked in or carried on.
Portable Oxygen Concentrator, Continuous Positive Airways Pressure, Ventilators and Respirators
Passengers may bring and use their portable oxygen concentrator (POC), continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) machines, ventilators or respirators on board provided that:

  1. The passenger must give PAL Reservations a minimum of 48-hour notice of his/her intention to use his/her POC, CPAP, ventilator or respirator and they must check-in up to one hour before the check-in time for the general public.

  2. Upon check-in, the passenger who will be using POCs, CPAPs, ventilators or respirators on board must present the required Medical Information Form (MEDIF) duly signed by the PAL physician clearing him/her fit for travel.
For POC, the model of the POC must be indicated in the MEDIF.
For CPAP, if the passenger has no other chronic medical conditions (e.g. Hypertension, Diabetes, etc.), but only SLEEP APNEA, a medical certificate will suffice.

  3. Carriage of POC, CPAP, ventilator or respirator onboard the aircraft must meet the following criteria:

;           a. The POC, CPAP, ventilator or respirator can be stowed in the overhead stowage bin or under the seat consistent with applicable

             safety and security regulations.

  1. Aircraft in-seat power is available on a limited number of aircraft and there is no guarantee that a seat with power supply will be available. Therefore, passengers should bring enough batteries to power the POC, CPAP, ventilator or respirator throughout the entire journey plus three hours of extra battery time.
    • Passengers may bring up to 20 spare batteries for lithium metal batteries (non-rechargeable) if lithium content is 2 grams or less, and for lithium ion batteries (rechargeable) if capacity is 100 watt hour or less.
    • Only two spare batteries are allowed for lithium metal batteries (non-rechargeable) with a lithium content exceeding 2g but not more than 8g or for lithium ion batteries (rechargeable) with capacity exceeding 100 watt hour but not more than 160 watt hour.
    • Spare batteries exceeding 8 grams (Lithium metal batteries) or exceeding 160 watt hour (Lithium ion batteries) are not allowed to be carried in the cabin.
    • Spare lithium batteries carried on board aircraft must be individually protected from short circuit by placement in original retail packaging, by otherwise insulating terminals by taping over exposed terminals, or by placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch.
  2. If the passenger wishes to connect his/her POC, CPAP, ventilator or respirator to the aircraft power outlets or in-seat power, they need to inform PAL Reservations 48 hours prior to flight for the availability of aircraft power supply. Some of our aircraft can supply AC power at 115 volts, 60 Hz through a Universal Outlet.
  3. If the passenger does not comply with the conditions for acceptance of POC, CPAP, ventilator or respirator outlined above, Philippine Airlines may deny boarding to the passenger and a written explanation will be provided.
